Use Of Conventions

Use of Conventions:

My product follows conventions of its genre by including a variety of ads for luxury brands such as Cartier, Balmain, Chanel, and Gucci etc. Another way my magazine follows these conventions is by including two page ads and having a cover that focuses on one model. As seen in the magazines I researched, the most stylish fashion magazine covers include minimal details and make sure that all focus is on the model.

Magazines like Paper Magazine and T: The New York Times Style Magazine are great examples of this convention. In my cover I did not feature article names on the cover and only including the date, location and name of the magazine, making sure that full focus was brought to the model.

"Donna" magazine represents women of all races and social classes and does so by casting a spotlight on diverse women in the modeling profession (ex. Asian Representation in 2018, Aspiring Model Spotlight) and also by showing the variety of cultures that create a unique view on style and fashion. (ex. Latina Culture in Fashion, Asian Culture in Fashion)

The article in my midterm submission is a "Model Spotlight" on two models, Camryn Wigglesworth and Katie Terres. "Model Spotlight" is always included in each issue of the magazine and highlights a range of new and upcoming models who are taking strides to turn the fashion world on its head. The purpose of this article series is to display a diverse group of models so that our demographics can see people who look, act, eat and breathe like them.

This goal is fulfilled by addressing body shaming, racism, sexism, cultural appropriation and addressing double standards in fashion. All of which are issues that women of our demographic most commonly deal with. To my brand, representation is of utmost importance.
